I had figured on personal deflector shields built into his Droid hands.
Of course Stormtroopers have a HUD. Due to space limitations it is suspended in a xenon mist, therefore only visible when looking directly ahead.
The Scouts on TFMOE were protected by a planetary shield. They did not expect much resistance from a bunch of three foot high wookie wannabes, had to use refurbished ARF hand me downs as a result.
