It has been over thirty years since Mel Gibson first played the titular character in the post apocalyptic desert. Somewhat understandably he has been replaced with the younger, fitter, Tom Hardy in Fury Road.

Weirdly, George Miller went from making Mad Max to Babe: Pig in the City and Happy Feet. So it’s an unusual switch back and forth through genres. I somehow doubt we’ll see a dancing penguin in this trailer but keep an eye out just in case.

– Looks like a bloody good laugh

I always think you know a film means business when it shaves the head of a female Oscar winner. I don’t think there’s going to be a lot of slapstick in this action film.

– This is not Mel Gibson

I checked. He looks quite a bit like Mel Gibson. When I first saw him I thought “hey! that’s Mel Gibson”. But apparently no, it’s not Mel Gibson.

– Swings and Roundabouts

This is a good concept. The idea that all these maniacs in cars are trying to hijack other trucks and cars could have been executed in any way but these poles are both clever and a great visual.

– Storm in a Teacup

Ugh, so remember there was that one moment in the new Terminator trailer that made me worry about everything? This is that moment again. Everything looked really impressive until the CG party started.

Overall: Despite my despair at ridiculous CG storms, I have a lot more faith in this being good than I did Terminator Genysis. The cast is legit, the source material is from the actual source, this could be a hit.

Ow! Stop throwing stuff, I had to! It’s in my contract! So, Mad Max, huh? It’s post-SDCC 2014 and THIS is what I have to work with… No Avengers 2? No Batman vs Superman trailer… Yes, there’s a teaser, but it’s literally just Bats and Supes glaring at each other. There’s also that Deadpool vid knocking around which is bloody awesome but it’s sadly just test footage so I’m not covering it.

Mad Max, an Australian dystopian post-apocalypse movie franchise directed by the guy who made Babe and Happy Feet, George Miller and starring the Jew-hating buddy-cop Mel Gibson. The first three were critically acclaimed and this fourth installment has been in development for LONGER THAN I’VE BEEN ALIVE. But now it’s coming and it stars Tom Hardy so let’s see what the craic is.

Tom Hardy, adopting yet another ludicrous accent (sorry, Australia!) is our Mad Max and he certainly looks the part. Hell, he even spends most of the trailer getting his ass kicked, which is what my memory of Mad Max is. Did he ever actually win a fight in the other movies? Hmm.

Imperius Regina
Charlize Theron plays Imperator Furiosa, possibly the antagonist, possibly an ally, the trailer is giving me bupkis in that regard but it’s a strong look for her.

Sand and Explosions!
That’s about as Mad Max as you can get. The look of the movie is very cool, having the vehicles designed by screenwriter and British comics artist Brendan McCarthy.

Can’t say much more about this trailer. It’s Mad Max, it looks like Mad Max and there’s nothing really given away other than “this is Mad Max as anything.” You can expected Mad Max: Fury Road to screech onto our screens May 15, 2015. Now, rack off!

We seriously can’t get away from the trailers this week. In fact there have been so many tasty looking movie trailers that it’s taken three of us DOOMsters to cover them all. Thanks to Sharp-O and Albert for their takes on GI:Joe 2 and MIB3. But arguably the most anticipated trailer of all the ones we’ve covered this past week would be this one for The Dark Knight Rises.

Christopher Nolan is pretty good at keeping control of what information is leaked about the film, so far we’ve just seen the odd on-set picture or two and very little about the plot has been divulged. What we do know is that Bane, Catwoman and Batman will all go head-to-head…to-head.

I think that’s as much as we need to know really. Nolan has done such a great job so far that confidence is beyond high for his swan-song with the franchise.

On that note: Lets take a look at this trailer.

You know, in hindsight, the “Demolish” the opposition sign on the left is a bit harsh.

C’mon guys, that’s just mean.

– The Second Greatest Harvey In History

Next to Harvey Kinkle, naturally.

The talk in the scene about getting rid of Gordon is interesting. It seems Batman isn’t the only good guy with difficulties in this film.

– Whisper Pussycat, Tell, Tell!

Hathaway’s Catwoman will be an interesting part of this whole story. She doesn’t obviously fit into the story line right now, in my mind.

But she seems to be talking a bit like a Robin Hood type figure so her place in this fight between Batman and Bane could cause a lot of trouble.

– This Place Looks Cool

It gives me a Ra’s Al Ghul sort of feeling. Possible full circle stuff?

I have no basis for this reasoning. Just a feeling.

Bloody hell.

Sorry? I need you to speak up. I didn’t quite catch that.

I really hope that this won’t be happening all the way through the movie, but Hardy’s voice for his Bane portrayal is a little tough to make out.

There is so much going on in this trailer I could go on even more but I’l spare you my ramblings. This looks cool. I want to see it. You want to see it. It’s going to be a long wait until next summer.
