i highly disagree!Aside from the fact I grew up on the 2003 show and it is almost definitely the closest we will ever get to the tone of the original Mirage Comics by Laird and Eastman in animated form,it has the most intimidating Shredders ever!(Mock Ch`rell`s appearance all you want but the little dude did not play,even in the infamous scene where he latched onto Raphael`s head he was clearly doing that as a power move to assert dominance over his foe!)Also,the multiple Shredders thing is in line with The Comics,as is the Utroms being linked to The Turtles` origin(Shredder wasn`t an Utrom in The Comics but a rogue Utrom taking Saki`s place after his death is well with the realm of possibility in the lore of The Comics in which a human clone made from a colony of worms can spontaneously mutate into a shark with no real explanation!),its character depth and long-running multi-part story arc format was a nice callback to 1990s animation!The voice cast was also a solid mix of New York,Vancouver and LA talent!

@Chris JT That`s a big part of why the original creators resented the `87 show.They`re libertarians and the `87 show brought their brainchildren into the mainstream corporate market where others could essentially now free-for-all with their intellectual babies!

Without the Ninja Turtles of 1987, the turtles would NOT be the iconic characters in the mainstream industry as we know them today. Nobody would even know who they are or really care about them.

The original series had some very iconic and memorable tunes like the opening theme and even the channel 6 theme, technodrome theme, etc. It was just classic! Don’t care what anyone else says, I’m glad they did what they did with the turtles. We’re lucky it exists when one of the creators hated it so much. I believe Eastman was the true creator, anyway. So I guess we owe him credit for greenlighting it.

Yeah, but that damn 1987 theme song is just so freaking ICONIC and badass. Possibly the greatest theme song in cartoon history, that’s just how cool it is.

I don’t agree with you, but the funny thing is I agree with the 1990 film being glorious. I don’t like the 2003 turtles, but I think the 1987 original series and 1990 film are the two best. I grew up with those. There’s nothing iconic about the 2003 turtles. Very stale and boring.

2003 doesn’t even come close to how awesome the original 1987 version was. I recently even ordered the first two seasons on dvd to relive the good old times.

Character development is fine, but you gotta put in more than that. They basically made Mikey the sole “humor” guy, and whatever humor he attempted was followed by “SHUT UP, MIKEY!!”

These are fair and just criticisms…and I agree with you, ESPECIALLY on the topic of “Turtles Forever”, which was basically Laird and 4Kids taking a big slimy dump on the 1987 show. Heck, Laird didn’t even WATCH the entire 1987 series: he just watched a few episodes, then tuned out since he expected it to be “nothing but silliness”. Granted, the show was goofy, but THAT was part of its charm! Hell, they knew when to get serious, but they weren’t a bunch of cowards who RAN AND HID LIKE A BUNCH OF WUSSES!!!

My friend would def agree with you. BTAS, TMNT2003, ATLA are like the crowning achievements of western animation to him. While I myself am not a huge BTAS fan (give me JLU any day if we’re talking Timm), I def agree on the other two.
