The Pac is back and war has changed…
Everyone knows who Pac-Man is, he’s the most iconic video game character of all time but did you know that he now has both a new cartoon series on Disney XD and a toyline? Me neither!

The legendary Pac-Man has made a triumphant return with a variety of cool figures, mini plush and even a transforming vehicle – just like in the Disney XD TV series. Set to be the talk of every playground, the brand new colorful range of toys from Bandai will enable kids to collect their favourite Pac-Man characters, or battle Pac with the baddies from the show.

I first saw this toy in a review by my buddy Bens Collectables and ever since I’ve been fascinated by this bizarre product so when I was offered the chance to review some product from this line, I jumped at the chance to get my hands on it.

Pac’s Pineapple Tank comes on a fantastic bubble card and surprisingly, doesn’t come with 18 languages on it so maybe this is an American box? I don’t know. I’m so used to European packaging coming with a bunch of different instructions on it that it’s nice that the packaging and images on the back are unobstructed by reams of text. Much like other Bandai toys at the moment, the Pac-Man toys have a code that can be used in the accompanying free app game, Pac-Man Dash. After my last attempt, I’m not going to try it out but I’ve seen it run and it looks pretty fun!

The Pac-Man himself is a rather simple figure but has articulation in his arms and his body/mouth opens up. Interestingly, his body parts and accesories can be removed quite easily if you like your Pac-Man closer to his 8-bit origins.

His regular bipedal form’s shoes and gloves are joined by some nifty tank commander goggles so ol’ Pac looks to be taking the ghost-hunting to a bizarre new level.

And now we come to the main attraction, the Pineapple Tank. Yes, it’s exactly as insane as it sounds. This transformable fruit armament features a rather simplistic conversion from delicious fruit to armoured death machine. It instantly brought to mind a mixture of the Food Fighters and M.A.S.K toys of my youth. It’s so silly that I instantly fell in love with it and I’ve been idly rolling it back and forth on my desk ever since.

Pac’s Pineapple Tank is an immensely goofy and stupid premise for a toy but if you appreciate the goofiness, you’ll enjoy this particular set like I did. Pac’s Pineapple Tank retails for £14.99 and there’s a lots more Pac-Man figures that you can check out on Bandai’s website!

Hey hey feels like we talked for a day! Jon uses the magic of Skype to wrangle podcasting supergiants Will and Stephen into giving him tips for improving his market share! Over the course of this double episode, too many things are discussed for me to even summarize. Rest assured that eventually the talk swings to video games, and stays there for a long long time. Getcha some!

Hey hey these guys are doing these things! Jon and Dan Kelly sit down to bask in the glow of having made a video game in a week, and thus being video game makers instead of just being rampant poseurs. There’s a link below if you want to play it. Other than chatting about that a bit, they check out some other games. Games like a Disney classic adaptation with unintentional bullet time, a very uneducational game based on an educational kids show, and an NES classic features whips and secret gender reveals! Getchoselfonit!

Hey hey who’d have thought we’d make it? Jon and Dan celebrate actually getting 50 episodes in the bag by not acknowledging it at all. They chat about various subjects, eventually leading to a triumphant extended metaphor for aging before talking about games (video kind). This week there’s a loud beeping spider in your soup, a braggy Genesis gem, and a hotly-contested Real American Hero title. Check it out!

Hey hey another reference to James Woods!? Jon and Dan battle MINOR technical difficulties to bring you another romp in the “hay”. They spend some time discussing bread before eating some games in front of you. Sit a spell while the airplane turns into a robot turns into a bug, some salmon get wrastled, and Vincent tries and fails to be a worthwhile competitor. After that, the podcast enters into NPR space, and we lose sight of it…

I’m going to let that sink in. Feeling old? Yeah, me too… But that won’t stop me loving the franchise. Granted I don’t religiously watch every season or buy stuff as readily as I do with Transformers (Which celebrates its 30th Anniversary next year. Yeah, feeling real old right now) but I will always have a fondness for Power Rangers because they were my first superheroes, long before I got into comics. Myself and fellow contributor Colin will be doing a number of Ranger-related articles in the near future to celebrate the franchise as a whole but for now, this is just a sneak peak at what fans young and old can expect this year!

First up, the 4-inch figures! You may have seen me review some of the MMPR 2010 and Samurai figures last year but this year we can expect a lot more figures that span the entire franchise! These will be Limited Edition figures with a metallic finish and while I think that’d look pretty goofy alongside the regular figures, it’ll be great to see brand new figures of older Rangers in the 4-inch scale.

Limited Edition Metallic Figures

Tokyo Vinyl are in the business of stylised “chibi” interpretations of pop culture characters, in much the same way Pop! Vinyl are and both will be releasing chibi Ranger figures in the near future. Depending on your fetish, you might go for these or not but personally, they’re not for me but I do find them fun in their own way.

Tokyo Vinyl Red Ranger

Want a Megazord but don’t have space for massive chunks of plastic? Then the Retrofire line is for you! The Retrofire line has been around for a few years but with varying degrees of success. They tend to have a weird asymmetrical articulation thing going on where not all the joints can move like it’s opposite though there are a few figures that have regular articulation (both arms and legs move the same way) but if you’re just planning on putting them on a shelf to display, they are generally designed for poses so it’s not too bad. As well as the Megaforce Megazords, they seem to be re-releasing the Dino Megazord as well.

Retrofire Megazords

Want a Megazord and have a sturdy shelf to place heavy objects on? Then the Die-cast Legacy Megazord is for you! It’s the same old Megazord, but it’s heavy as FFFUUUUUU– A lot of grey plastic has been replaced by shiny die-cast metal, notably on the arms and legs (maybe even the sword) and it even comes in a retro stule package that homages the original. I can see these appealing to both fans and 90’s nostalgia buffs.

Legacy Dino Megazord

Rounding out the Megazords and stepping into the realm of Japanese awesomesauce are the Super Robot Chogokin figures. Taking the idea of Retrofires and dialing up the awesome to 11, the SRC Megazords are Japanese die-cast collector figures and so far, there’s been a fair few released. At NYTF, only the Dino Megazord, SPD Delta Squad Megazord and the Samurai Megazord were on display (Alongside some excellent S.H. Figuarts, highly articulated collector figures which I lust after like you wouldn’t believe) but SRC have also create a figure for the Mystic Force Titan Megazord as well so we can probably expect more down the road. I know the SRC Daizyujin (Dino Megazord) is available for pre-order on the US Toys ‘R’ Us site (Due out on the 15th Feb).

SRC Megazords and S.H. Figuarts

Going to a slightly smaller, but no less awesome scale, are the Mighty Morphin’ Legacy Mask Collection. Based on a similar line the Japanese do for all the Sentai Red Rangers, this set is purely for the original Mighty Morphin’ team and it looks glorious! I don’t know whether the full production run will have the Metallic finish like those in the package or there’ll be two variations but either way, I’ll be glad to have them in my display cabinet.

Mighty Morphin’ Legacy Mask Collection

And now, the crown jewel of this entire line-up, the most requested and desired of anything PR-related… The Legacy Power Morpher.

*Squeeeeeeeee*

Yeah, drink it in, friends. This is flavour country. Coming with 5 coins and chock full of lights, sounds and die-cast, the Legacy Power Morpher is the must-have item of this selection and guaranteed to get any fan or nostalgia buff pumped! I don’t have to say anymore, now do I?

That’s all I really have to show you for now, folks! The images I’ve used were gathered by Tokunation and they have more extensive galleries you can check out. I can say for certainty that the Americans and Canadians amongst you will have little to no trouble finding these out in the wild on your side of the pond but for us UK fans, the availability of ANY of these products is up in the air. I guess the 4-inch figures and Retrofires will make it but as for the high-end collectibles? No clue. No word. Only hope that we will not be forgotten in the coming year. Be on the look-out for more Power Ranger articles coming from the DOOM Towers in the coming months and may the Power protect you, always.

Hey hey give it up for James Woods! Jon and Dan return to speak to each other in what is becoming distressingly infrequent quality bro time. They quickly go over the events of January, henceforth referred to as The Worst Month, before getting into the heart of the episode. One Word Impressions. Eventually they talk about some games, while being the world’s foremost Butt Punisher, falling into a Marvelous Land of Desserts, and ditching a big bag of Braunschweiger. Listen up!

Hey hey we’re so far away! Jon and Dan Kelly figure out Skype call recording to bring you this week’s episode. It turned out okay! There’s an adjustment period, but soon we get back into the swing of things by discussing Kangaroos. Later on we check into games while changing into our superhero garb, throw out snarky cat one-liners, and take on the forces of the moon. Apologies to Nathan Libby, rightful owner of Djugb.
