The second trailer for Thor 2: Asgardian Boogaloo was released today. The movie comes out on October 30th this year and will be the second post-Avengers film.

There has been a change of director since the first Thor. Kenneth Branagh has been replaced by Alan Taylor, a director who has worked primarily on television. He’s worked on Game of Thrones, Mad Men, Sopranos, and tons more shows but he has only made 3 movies previously and none with the kind of budget that this film has so it will be considered a step up for him.

All the principal cast return, along with a few additions, and with a late release date like it has there shouldn’t be much competition in the box office. Can’t fail, right?

Right?

– Take Me Down To The Paradise City

The colour and style of the last film was a little on the cartoon side. Things tended to look a little clunky. Similar to toys. This film however looks a little bit more sophisticated. Even Asgard looks more detailed.

– Cancel The Ragnorak

Idris Elba plays Heimdall, who in the comics almost never takes off his helmet. It’s not a destruction of his character to have him here with the helmet off or anything like that but it took me by surprise nonetheless. And I’m sure the ladies aren’t complaining.

– Smile Like You Mean It

Tom Hiddleston returns once again as Loki. If ever there was a man just having the time of his life in a role, it’s him. I really get the impression that he’d play this character as long as they ask him to. I hope they keep asking him. And I’m sure the ladies aren’t complaining.

– Swedish Murder Machine

Chris Hemsworth is turning into a man before our very eyes, folks. If the first movie was Thor learning to grow up, then this movie will show that effect. More-so Hemsworth is starting to look like an older man too. More commanding. And I’m sure the ladies aren’t complaining.

—————————————————————————-

Overall: in the end, Thor 1 did better in the box office than some of his Avenger counterparts, so hopefully this sequel can continue that success. It certainly looks a better film, hopefully it will back that claim up come release time. Bring a female friend.

Remember last year how the GI Joe: Retaliation trailer was like an early Christmas present, offering us a glimpse of the action adventure that STILL HASN’T APPEARED! Well this year, we got one that’s even better than The Rock and Bruce Willis. Seriously, it’s way better. Let’s go fishing for goodies in the Pacific Rim!

It should be no surprise that along with all manner of giant robots, I also have a fondness for giant monsters and no one does that better than the Japanese! The Kaiju genre includes the likes of Godzilla, Gamera, Mecha-Gordon and other giant monsters beginning with ‘G’ but today’s movie comes from acclaimed director Guillermo del Toro as a homage to those classics. When giant monsters known as Kaiju begin rising from the bottom of the ocean, humanity’s only defense are the colossal Jaegers, giant robots built for combat. But when they get overwhelmed, it’s up to a washed-up pilot, a rookie and an obsolete mecha to do the impossible and win the day. Let’s check out the trailer!

Why the long face?
The first real monster we get a look at is this beast attacking a bridge as jets buzz all around it. It instantly reminds me of the classic Gamera villain, Guiron who also has a massive blade for a face! Brilliant!

Aperture Science
The clean white pilot suits, ludicrously large robots, Ellen McLain voicing the AI… Are we sure Cave Johnson hasn’t gone into the monster fighting business? But seriously, this is a unique set-up for piloting mecha that I haven’t seen before. Pilots with a neural link and walking their robots around is pretty cool. I also love the sly Robot Jox reference in the trailer too.

Open the Bifrost!
Idris Elba is great in everything, that’s a fact and if anyone disagrees, kindly send them to my office and I will punch them in the throat because WE ARE CANCELLING THE APOCALYPSE! Best line of the trailer, right there!

It’s Showtime!

I’m getting real Big O vibe from the Jaeger named Gipsy Danger. Hell, all of the robots have something of the Big O aesthetic about them and I’m loving it. Check out this rocket punch!

POW! Right in the kisser!

We’re gonna need a bigger boat.
The big bad of the movie or just another monster? Who knows but it looks damn impressive all the same. I hope we get a variety of monsters as well as robots.

Are you as hyped as I am right now? I hope so! This movie came out of nowhere to me, having only seen the teaser a couple weeks ago but now I think I might be looking forward to this more than Iron Man 3, and that’s saying something! Pacific Rim is due to rise from the ocean in July 2013!

With all my excitement for a certain superhero team movie coming out soon I’ve dropped the ball with some of my trailer reviews for other films. In all honesty there are so many big movies coming out this year, I had to pick and choose which ones I review. There is only so much time in the day! Luckily my fellow DOOMsters have pitched in and helped me out with a couple (although some still haven’t shown up with that Spider-man trailer review yet). Despite all that, a look at Prometheus really shouldn’t have taken this long.

I love the first three Alien movies. In my mind, that’s all that exists. We shall not speak of any others. Ridley Scott taking the helm of a new movie, not a sequel or prequel, set in the same universe understandably set the geeks ablaze with excitement. Then we heard the case. Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Guy Pearce. Really, you guys? Throw in Patrick Stewart and maybe David Tennant and we have officially hit every fan group possible.

Everything is sounding awesome so far, right? Like, really, really, really ridiculously good. The trailer has a lot to live up to. Let’s see what it manages.

Give yourself a minute, then read on for my thoughts.

– Wait, Did I Accidentally Click The Hobbit Trailer?

You had to be thinking it too, right?

I don’t know what this is but having it at the start of the trailer completely threw me.

– Fly Me To The Moon And Let Me Play Among The Stars

This is Prometheus itself. I think it’s a rather cool looking ship.

In fact the whole look of the technology looks great. It still has a bit of dirt and grime to go along with the shiny lights which is necessary but it’s a damn good looking movie on the basis of this trailer.

– Fassbender Says “Bite My Shiny Metal Ass”

The internet rumour mill is churning the idea of Mickey F’s character being an android. It’s not a bad theory.

I’ve often questioned his status as a human. He’s far too good looking and talented.

– Get Away From Her, You Bitch!

Our heroine for this movie has already shown she can be a bad ass. Will she live up to Sigourney Weaver?

*shakes Magic 8 Ball*

*turns it over*

“Most Likely”.

————————————————————————————————————————————————–

I really think this could be the critical hit of the year. I worry it may get looked over in the Box Office department (the competition is so big this year that someone has to lose out) but I hope it will still be a success. We need a space thriller to do well. It’s time.

I was on edge at the end of the trailer and IT’S A TRAILER. Lord knows how the movie holds up, but if it’s anything like this we’re in for a treat.
