Kick-Ass is a favoured movie around here in Doom Towers. It’s a wonderful mix of bloody violence, humour, and superhero mythology. Despite all the cast and crew having previous work, it seemingly brought them all to the attention of the world, particularly Chloe Grace Moretz and director Matthew Vaughan who have both been busy little bees since.

The production of Kick-Ass 2 the movie started long before Kick-Ass 2 the comic was finished. Although, considering we weren’t that crazy about the comic version of the original in comparison (you can hear us discuss it at length here), this may be a good thing.

The following trailer is a red-band trailer which means it’s not safe for work or the younglings. Only watch it at your own risk. But, you know, cursing is cool so…

– …Game On, Cocksuckers

First things first, the obvious thing that we can’t get away from. Hit-Girl isn’t 13 anymore. There is a difference in size that you just can’t avoid.

So we’ll probably get a lot of “growing pains” sort of stuff with her in this outing. Not a bad thing, just an observation.

– Second obvious statement

Jim Carrey has the ability to steal this movie. From the couple seconds we see of him, we can already assume he’s going to get all the attention.

When Carrey acts in a film, he’s very watchable but when he actually ACTS in a film… man, it’s game over.

The “I need to hang up my tights” storyline is as old as the “I need to wear some tights” storyline so it’s no big surprise we’re getting some of that again here.

What I did find interesting is that the black armour we keep seeing Kick-Ass wearing? Yup, it’s Big Daddy’s armour. Wearing a dead father’s clothes is no small thing so there should be some interesting stuff between Hit-Girl and Kick-Ass revolving around this.

I wasn’t convinced by Mintz-Plasse the first time round…

… and I really don’t know how I’ll feel about him now. But, I do feel if you’re going to have the name Mother Fucker, you must at least earn that title.

Overall: I’m excited. Moretz is starting to confirm herself has a bankable actress even at such a young age and despite the change of director on the project it looks like we’re in for more of the same madness.
But seriously, watch out for Carrey.
