Oh, man! This entry is a doozy, between high concept gameplay and a f***ing AWESOME trailer, I can barely contain my excitement so let’s cast our all knowing eyes over Watch Dogs.

Mmmm, that’s good espionage! Watch Dogs’ key mechanic is hacking into various electronic systems, either to obtain and control information or to disable the devices at specific times. It was a surprise unveiling at E3 and the developer was visibly excited to be unveiling it. The protagonist, Aiden Pierce, can use any device tied into the city’s central operating system (ctOS) and has access to all sorts of personal information as well as the ability to hack phones and disable traffic lights all from his mobile phone. Combat seems to be your standard cover-based shooting but the hacking mechanic could lead to some fun instances and I can’t wait for it to be released.

And now for something completely awesome.

Did you see that? DID YOU F***ING SEE THAT!? God damn. Watch it again.

Oh, man that’s good. Do I even need to talk about this? I mean, seriously? Connor walks through the American lines and steals a horse, just to charge the British lines and take out ONE GUY. Connor has easily become my favourite Assassin in this series for sheer balls-to-the-wall badassery. Just look at the bit where the redcoat general looks at him in slow-mo with the smoking all around him. I turned into a stereotype in a movie theatre at that point. “Aw, dude. You are so dead! He’s coming for you and you are going to die!” Damn. Love it, can’t wait for it, take all my money.

I’ll be back soon with more of my trailer highlights from E3! Stay tuned!

Well, well, well. It’s E3 time again and while it’s not as explosively awesome as in previous years, there are some notable highlights and while my esteemed colleague Jasmine delves into the Nintendo side of things, I’ll be your guide to some of the more impressive trailers and demos coming out of this year’s E3. First up, the return of the Chief, Halo 4!

So more jungle, more Covenant and more of the same, right?

Heh.

Whatever Covenant is on this Forerunner World (The planet MC fell to on the Legendary Ending of Halo 3) looks to be just as uninvited as the humans considering what shows up.

Fiesty little Sheila, isn’t it? Looks part Metroid Space Pirate, Part Bionicle with it’s floaty armour pieces and badassery. It’s got a few sneaky little tricks up it’s sleeves, like cloaking, teleporting and delpoying a drone to throw your own grenades back at you.

Looks to be fun and the new studio, 343 Industries, is doing some good work from what I’ve seen so far! Now, from one distant galaxy to another far, far away: Star Wars 1313

1313 is the title for LucasArts’ brand-new M-Rated Star Wars game set in the 1313th level of Coruscant, home to it’s criminal element. You’ll play a bounty hunter navigating this underworld metropolis and trying to uncover a cospiracy. Those are pretty much all of the details available right now but it’s great that LucasArts are going to be producing a mature Star Wars game after a slew of kid-friendly titles in the past couple of years.

That’s all I’ve got for now but check in over the next couple of days to see more of my highlights from E3!

The big news this year is obviously the unveiling by Nintendo of Project Cafe, now known as Wii U. Really all that was truly revealed was what the system and controller look like and the demo control schemes.

The most surprising and interesting of these was the virtual space. Because the controller seems to be a game centric iPad, this allows developers to place things off screen that can be viewed with out changing the main camera angle. I especially like this for the golf demo they showed, even though this use seemed entirely for novelty use.

The only true game shown using the controller was Super Mario Bros. Mii. This alone seemed to be a good selling point, since you can leave the TV and still play the game directly on the controller. I am totally sure parents will love this functionality especially.

However, this leads me to the main problem I see coming up with the Wii U. In the Mario demo the kid playing switches from the Wii Remote to the Wii U’s tablet controller. The other demos were either an individual using the tablet or one person on the tablet while anyone else playing was always on the Wii remote. This harkens back to what was said earlier in the presentation, that the system won’t be cheap. In fairness, since it is superior graphics to all current consoles I was expecting this. However, with the only one person using the controller at any given time makes me think the controller alone costs a small fortune. In the case of the Wii, the controllers were expensive enough if you wanted remotes and nunchuks but this may be even more expensive then those two combined.

The graphics that the system showed seemed promising but the price point may be what drives people away. The saving grace to this potential cost issue is that all the Wii’s peripherals will carry over to the new system, so maybe we can save money there. Overall, we won’t know until the price has been announced and even then more games showing the tablet’s real value need to be shown.
