I’d like to take a moment to apologize to all my British and Australian readers. I had originally planed to have this all done by the time the movie came out. I didn’t realize you guys were getting it a week and a day earlier than we here in the States. So I am going to try and get these last two done as quickly as I can without skipping over any necessary details. I hope to have the last one out on Monday. So anyway, here we go with part 3 of the Star Trek Countdown to Darkness series. Again, if you haven’t read part One or Two yet take the time to do so now otherwise lets get on with the show!

We open with Sulu and Hendroff tied up in one of the ‘Shadows’ tents. Sulu is upset that he was knocked out for the whole thing noting their captors had been given an evolutionary bump. Sulu manages to get one of his boots of to procure a knife. Hendroff mentions the numerous Star Fleet violations but Sulu tells him he had “special dispensation from the Captain to carry what ever I need.” Hendroff comments that a red shirt would never get away with that.

Back in the caverns Kirk tell April he’s going after Spock regardless of what April thinks (seeing as he lied to him about having Sulu and Hendroff.) April tries to explain his strategy when they are interrupted by one of his men. There is a new arrival on the planet and April tells Kirk he should wait before going after Spock.

Up on the surface Kirk and April greet an incoming shuttle. Mudd and Uhura come off it. Mudd tells April she has everything he asked for and more, but her shuttle is being held captive on the Enterprise. She then quickly introduces herself to Kirk, noting that she’s single! Kirk tells Uhura everything that has happened on the planet up to this point including Spock’s current situation.

Despite Mudd’s disapproval and April saying he can’t go with them Uhura and Kirk make a rescue run in the shuttle. Sulu and Hendroff now freed from their bindings are assessing their escape when the two guards out side the tent come flying in slamming into the poll, followed by Spock.

On the shuttle craft Uhura complains to Kirk about Spock and that this is the second time he unnecessarily risked his life (read Star Trek the Ongoing Series #3 and 4 for the first time). She tells him Spock is guided by his emotions, and hiding it under any logic that will fit. Kirk then asks her if he left her the conn, who has the bridge now?

Lens flairs are cannon

Spock, Sulu and Hendroff make it out of the camp but still end up being attacked by the ‘Shadows’ when the shuttle arrives to save them.

A while later everyone returns to the enterprise with Mudd and April where it is revealed that Klingons had been backing the ‘Shadows’ to help secure the planet as part of the Empire. When Kirk asks why April didn’t say that in the first place, he says he hoped that Kirk might help if he thought it was a simple civil war and not a proxy war for the planet.

After sending April and Mudd to sickbay to be double checked Spock and Kirk talk about what Spock did. Spock admits he was wrong and “put the needs of the few before the needs of the many”

April and Mudd head to the bridge and proceed to stun everyone there. Then April enters a code that gives him full reign of the ship., and shuts down access to the bridge. Spock and Kirk are told by April that he had a fail safe programed into the old Enterprise and he took a gamble that it got transferred to the new ship. They head to engineering. Neither Skotty or Spock can figure out the coding April used in his program. Kirk claims that if April attacks and army backed by Klingons he’ll start a galactic war.

Welcome Back to *TOTALLY SPOILED* with Harvey Locust where we are going to spoil the Ferengi out of the new Star Trek Countdown series. This is the second issue, so if you missed the first one, CLICK HERE to read it first. Now enough with the yappin’ lets get on with the story….

On the surface of Phadaeus IV, at the edge of explored space, is where we find Kirk and Spock confronting Captain April and his rogue army of the indigenous population. Kirk berates April, calling him a phony but April’s only concern is asking about his ship, which Jim smugly tells him was decommissioned two years prior and that Jim has the new one that he can’t get back to because April shot it down.

April claims that it was an opposing faction that did it but he is interrupted when explosions start going off. April and his “men” lead Kirk and Spock deep into some caverns in the mountainside as the attackers pursue. Once inside, April takes Kirk’s phaser and seals off the entrance then gives the phaser back to Kirk.

On the ship, Chekov still can’t get through the interference and Uhura wants to go back down to the planet to look for them. Bones tells her they are probably perfectly fine and Kirk needed some shore leave anyway.

Back in the cave, Kirk asks April who attacked them and why does Star Fleet believe him dead. April says he will tell them once they are safe and then reveals what seems to be a dead end is actually a hologram covering the entrance to his home. Spock notes that the hologram is more sophisticated than those currently in use at Star Fleet.

Inside, April begins the story of what happened. How his Enterprise was the first to check out Phadaeus IV. How everything looked normal for an iron aged society “and then we met The Shadows”. April tells and shows them a video of a mass genocide taking place on the planet where one race slaughters and enslaves another based on their color. Children being eaten or used as pets. He tells them that after seeing that he snuck off the ship with as much technology and phasers as he could carry. Spock inquires as to why his first officer had not arrested him for breaking the Prime Directive. April said that his first officer, Alex Marcus, was his best friend. Marcus told him he would tell everyone that April was dead, and the fact that Spock and Kirk believed him to be dead was proof that Marcus proved up to his word. Spock calls April out, saying there is way more weapons and technology on the planet than what April first described. April admits to having outside help.

Back on the ship, Uhura is still debating going after them when the ship is approached by a small vessel with a Bajoran woman on board claiming to make a delivery to April. When asked who she is…

On the planet surface, April has Kirk look through some binoculars at a Shadow army sitting off in the distance and tells him Sulu and Hendroff are captured there. That starts an argument between the two which gives Spock the opportunity to run off and attempt a rescue on his own.

TO BE CONTINUED…

Welcome to *TOTALLY SPOILED* a new section here on The Web Site Of Doom where I will be totally spoiling anything from comic books to TV shows, games and more. To kick things off we are starting with the new Star Trek Countdown series. I will be giving a complete synopsis’ of the IDW comic book series Written by Mike Johnson that will be leading up to the new Star Trek movie ‘Into Darkness’! Be prepared for full on spoilers as this will be geared towards those that don’t have the time, money, or other means to read the series, but want to know the background events that lead us from the first movie into the next. Set your phasers on stun and lets warp right into this!

Countdown to Darkness #1

Spock dreams of logic. He dreams of beaming down to Vulcan. He dreams of going into the Katric Ark to save the Vulcan elders. He dreams they beam off the planets surface. All of them. He dreams his mother thanks him aboard the Enterprise. As she does he feels a surge of emotion, and with that emotion comes the end of logic. The ship begins to fall apart and his mother curses him for dooming them all pushing him out the now broken window. Just as the ship explodes, he awakens.

Spock sits on the edge of his bed for several moments as the buzzer for his door rings before he finally says ‘Enter.’ Uhura comes in the room and tries to console him, but Spock brushes off the dreams and her concerns and says he’s going to start his shift early. She says she will join him since that’s the only time she gets to see him anymore. Meanwhile in the Captain’s Quarters, Kirk has a conversation with the log about not really having any friends on the ship since everyone treats him as the Captain.

Back up on the bridge the ship pulls up to a planet named Phaedus, a class M planet. 5 years prior Phaedus scanned and the population was determined to be in a developmental stage similar to that of the Roman Empire on Earth. Kirk is disappointed to learn that this will be a typical ‘scan and dash’ and tries to convince Spock to go to the surface just as Chekov picks up a high energy field on the planet. What ever it is seems to knock out communications and the transporters. After much deliberation it is decided that Kirk, Spock, and Sulu will take a shuttle to investigate. (As per “Starfleet regulations” of sorts you have to take a red shirt with you on away missions. In this case that red shirt is Mr. Hendroff, the big dude that kicked Kirks butt back in the bar on the first movie.) They all go despite Uhura’s objections. Everything goes fine until they are shot down. The shuttle gets severely damaged and Sulu is left with a concussion. Hendroff stays behind to care for Sulu as Spock and Jim go explore. They don’t get far before they are stopped by an army of strange creatures with phasers.

One of them also has a universal translator and asks the crew to identify themselves. After Kirk gives his name and rank he is interrupted in his demand to know where they got the phasers and translator by a man telling him to calm down.

“I gave them their weapons, and the tricorder. My name is Robert April…former Captain of a ship called Enterprise.”

To Be Continued…

(Click here to read part 2!)

If you liked this and want to know more about what Kirk and the crew have been up to since the last movie (including adventures that happened in Star Trek The Original Series but with the twist of the new timeline) head on over to the Message Board of Doom where we will be taking a look at the ongoing comic series one issue at a time, and you can tell us about your thoughts, hopes, and half baked ideas on the new timeline and what it means to the Star Trek Universe in general.
