It has been over thirty years since Mel Gibson first played the titular character in the post apocalyptic desert. Somewhat understandably he has been replaced with the younger, fitter, Tom Hardy in Fury Road.

Weirdly, George Miller went from making Mad Max to Babe: Pig in the City and Happy Feet. So it’s an unusual switch back and forth through genres. I somehow doubt we’ll see a dancing penguin in this trailer but keep an eye out just in case.

– Looks like a bloody good laugh

I always think you know a film means business when it shaves the head of a female Oscar winner. I don’t think there’s going to be a lot of slapstick in this action film.

– This is not Mel Gibson

I checked. He looks quite a bit like Mel Gibson. When I first saw him I thought “hey! that’s Mel Gibson”. But apparently no, it’s not Mel Gibson.

– Swings and Roundabouts

This is a good concept. The idea that all these maniacs in cars are trying to hijack other trucks and cars could have been executed in any way but these poles are both clever and a great visual.

– Storm in a Teacup

Ugh, so remember there was that one moment in the new Terminator trailer that made me worry about everything? This is that moment again. Everything looked really impressive until the CG party started.

Overall: Despite my despair at ridiculous CG storms, I have a lot more faith in this being good than I did Terminator Genysis. The cast is legit, the source material is from the actual source, this could be a hit.

Ow! Stop throwing stuff, I had to! It’s in my contract! So, Mad Max, huh? It’s post-SDCC 2014 and THIS is what I have to work with… No Avengers 2? No Batman vs Superman trailer… Yes, there’s a teaser, but it’s literally just Bats and Supes glaring at each other. There’s also that Deadpool vid knocking around which is bloody awesome but it’s sadly just test footage so I’m not covering it.

Mad Max, an Australian dystopian post-apocalypse movie franchise directed by the guy who made Babe and Happy Feet, George Miller and starring the Jew-hating buddy-cop Mel Gibson. The first three were critically acclaimed and this fourth installment has been in development for LONGER THAN I’VE BEEN ALIVE. But now it’s coming and it stars Tom Hardy so let’s see what the craic is.

Tom Hardy, adopting yet another ludicrous accent (sorry, Australia!) is our Mad Max and he certainly looks the part. Hell, he even spends most of the trailer getting his ass kicked, which is what my memory of Mad Max is. Did he ever actually win a fight in the other movies? Hmm.

Imperius Regina
Charlize Theron plays Imperator Furiosa, possibly the antagonist, possibly an ally, the trailer is giving me bupkis in that regard but it’s a strong look for her.

Sand and Explosions!
That’s about as Mad Max as you can get. The look of the movie is very cool, having the vehicles designed by screenwriter and British comics artist Brendan McCarthy.

Can’t say much more about this trailer. It’s Mad Max, it looks like Mad Max and there’s nothing really given away other than “this is Mad Max as anything.” You can expected Mad Max: Fury Road to screech onto our screens May 15, 2015. Now, rack off!

With all my excitement for a certain superhero team movie coming out soon I’ve dropped the ball with some of my trailer reviews for other films. In all honesty there are so many big movies coming out this year, I had to pick and choose which ones I review. There is only so much time in the day! Luckily my fellow DOOMsters have pitched in and helped me out with a couple (although some still haven’t shown up with that Spider-man trailer review yet). Despite all that, a look at Prometheus really shouldn’t have taken this long.

I love the first three Alien movies. In my mind, that’s all that exists. We shall not speak of any others. Ridley Scott taking the helm of a new movie, not a sequel or prequel, set in the same universe understandably set the geeks ablaze with excitement. Then we heard the case. Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Guy Pearce. Really, you guys? Throw in Patrick Stewart and maybe David Tennant and we have officially hit every fan group possible.

Everything is sounding awesome so far, right? Like, really, really, really ridiculously good. The trailer has a lot to live up to. Let’s see what it manages.

– Wait, Did I Accidentally Click The Hobbit Trailer?

You had to be thinking it too, right?

I don’t know what this is but having it at the start of the trailer completely threw me.

– Fly Me To The Moon And Let Me Play Among The Stars

This is Prometheus itself. I think it’s a rather cool looking ship.

In fact the whole look of the technology looks great. It still has a bit of dirt and grime to go along with the shiny lights which is necessary but it’s a damn good looking movie on the basis of this trailer.

– Fassbender Says “Bite My Shiny Metal Ass”

The internet rumour mill is churning the idea of Mickey F’s character being an android. It’s not a bad theory.

I’ve often questioned his status as a human. He’s far too good looking and talented.

– Get Away From Her, You Bitch!

Our heroine for this movie has already shown she can be a bad ass. Will she live up to Sigourney Weaver?

I really think this could be the critical hit of the year. I worry it may get looked over in the Box Office department (the competition is so big this year that someone has to lose out) but I hope it will still be a success. We need a space thriller to do well. It’s time.

I was on edge at the end of the trailer and IT’S A TRAILER. Lord knows how the movie holds up, but if it’s anything like this we’re in for a treat.

We’re being treated to two Snow White movies this year. Both are trying different takes to the Walt Disney style story made oh so famous. I think both are fully sans-dwarves as well. Size-ist Hollywood strikes again.

This seems to have a great cast; Charlize Theron, Chris Hemsworth, that chick from Twilight that nobody likes, all good box-office fodder right there. And the story could be fun, ramping up the fairy-tale for a slightly older audience. Everything you need for a hit, right?

Well, we’ve seen this sort of thing fail on it’s ass in the past. The Brothers Grimm, anyone? And I know I keep harping on about this but with such a big budget movie line-up this year it’s going to be difficult to get bums on seats unless you get some good reviews from the critics.

Now I’m obviously not one of those influencial critics. I’m more one of those “haha, he said number 2″ sort of online writers. So lets just take a look at the trailer and see what we think.

– Fight! Fight! Fight!

Already, glass-exploding-faceless bad guys are cooler than a dwarf named Sleepy.

Right out of the box, this trailer wants us to know that this will be an action movie. Disney be damned!

– Her Milkshake Brings All The Boys To The Yard

Damn right, it’s better than yours.

She could teach you, but she’d have to eat your soul.

– Mirror, Mirror…

…standing there, what creepy news do you have to share?

I’m not saying that this isn’t cool, I’m just saying it would be useless to shave in front of. Can’t see a thing!

– It’s Nice To See Chris Stretch Himself As An Actor

Successfully leaving those Thor days behind him.

I’d be telling you a lie if I said the trailer didn’t look pretty. The director definitely has a cool sense of style. However, plot wise, it’s a whole dose of “meh” so far. But Stardust was a highly enjoyable jaunt and not a million miles off in essence. This will be down to execution. Hopefully, when it’s released, the movie doesn’t shatter like our bad-guys above.
