Fury Rogue ties up the loose end created by the lack of Fallout’s involvement in The Thinker’s grand scheme. Kinda. Ultimately, I think this was just an excuse to bring Wentworth Miller back and I will never complain about that!

The crux of the episode is Barry not really grieving since Ralph’s death and while I joke that Barry is an emotionless robot who doesn’t care about anyone other than himself, Grant Gustin can be incredible at conveying emotion and he gets to show that towards the end of the episode.

Nice to see Katie Cassidy take a break from her stint on Arrow as an evil Black Canary to… play the same thing but from the Nazi Earth… Okay, sure, seems like they didn’t really need her but cool, Katie Cassidy soon becoming the new Tom Cavanagh.

Speaking of, the fallout of Harry’s dark matter experiment is laid bare as he’s told he will lose his intelligence and soon have to relearn everything he knows. While we don’t really see that in effect, we see Harry try his best to stop Cisco repeating the mistake while trying to keep it secret. It’s not his best performance, really.

Wentworth Miller gets the lion’s share of the jokes, puns and emotional chats because we’ve got him, it’d be a shame to waste him and he performs spectacularly. The Leo Snart character allows Miller to be both playful and deadly serious in a way the original Snart wasn’t. Great to have him back, shame to see him leave again.

Marlize’s slow face turn continues as she realises that while her husband has returned to his old face, the problems with his new personality persist and no amount of her seduction can change that. The man she loved has gone and we’ll probably see her team up with Team Flash in the last couple episodes of the season.

Caitlin is investigating Killer Frost’s disappearance and her feelings about losing her other half. Not much time is spent with her but what is makes clear that while Killer Frost is gone, she’s still part of Caitlin, who vows to find a way to unlock her abilities once more.

Over all, an average-but-good episode that advances the characters more-so than the plot. Next week, we see the return of Gypsy and another speedster in Therefore She Is.

Just as Marvel had a set of three Mighty Micros, DC’s characters weren’t to be outdone and joined the fray! I will say that I’m immediately disappointed that Batman characters dominate the wave but Batman sells so that’s no a huge surprise. Speaking of…

Batman vs. Catwoman makes a certain amount of sense on paper but I’m surprised they didn’t jump to Joker right away. I mean, should this line continue (and I truly hope it does), who would Joker be paired with? Batgirl? That’s kind of sadistic, given their history.

Bats and Cats are pretty much as you’d expect, but with bigger printing on their torso and a nice carton of milk for Catwoman. One thing I really noticed in this set is that skin tone does not print well on black plastic; Bruce being much darker and Selina’s being very light.

Given that this is Batman and Catwoman, it’s probably safe to assume these where the easiest to design. Batmobile and Cat-themed Batmobile? Done, let’s go to lunch. Let’s not be too hasty, I’ve got some ideas about Batman’s sidekick Robin that might just blow your mind!

Robin vs. Bane or “How to break a Teenage Sidekick”. Wait…

Awww, look at Robin. All chunk and rounded edges standing next to the murderous luchador wielding dynamite. Bane looks pretty adorable to be honest, with the murderous glare and ‘B’ on his chest like you need reminding of who he is.

Robin’s cart follows the minifigure’s lead; having the same rounded, soft Robin symbol and playschool colours. At least the colours pop because the cart itself is as basic as they come. Bane, on the other hand, has an awesome downsized rendition of his famous drill-tank. I don’t know why LEGO Bane has a drill-tank but I’m not going to complain because he looks both cute and deadly!

Finally, we come to the set that spawned this little review series, as I’d asked for it specifically since we have Flash Facts; our weekly look at the Scarlet Speedster’s adventures and was surprised with ALL the Mighty Micros!

I think Flash and Captain Cold translate super well to this cutesy style and their accessories reflect that, Flash holding an energy drink while Captain Cold has an ice cream in addition to his cold gun. The guy still doesn’t look happy about it though.

The Flash, much like Sonic The Hedgehog, does not need a vehicle but I have to say that I kind of dig his basic kart much more than Catwoman’s or Robin’s for some reason. Maybe because it looks the most like and actual go-kart. Like Barry put in so much less effort by just getting a regular go-kart and slapping his emblem on it. Captain Cold, meanwhile, is riding a zamboni into battle. That’s… Perfect. They should have sent a poet. It’s so delightfully silly that I love it.

While DC’s Mighty Micros don’t quite have as much imagination in their karts as Marvel’s, the ones that do try come out looking that little bit more entertaining. I’d definitely recommend picking up the Flash/Cold set but your mileage may vary with the other sets.

Rogue Air, obviously, is a send-up to the classic Nicolas Cage/John Malkovich feature Con Air about convicts overtaking a prison transport plane. Rogue Air does not do this. Boo-urns!

We finally find out what the device Harrison Wells constructed last episode does and it means bad news for the inmates of the pipe line. While Flash struggles to find a way to move the prisoners, Eddie struggles with the inevitable; that Barry marries Iris. Finally the characters know the canon pairing like the audience and despite Iris’s best efforts, we’re on track to seeing the romantic subplot settled. Hopefully. It’s a good thing Iris knocks dudes out real good with wrenches otherwise she’d be useless.

Wentworth Miller returns and somehow manages to upstage a team-up episode! The man has too much charisma! His first scene in the show is accented by “Cold as Ice” playing on the jukebox! The man is TOO cool! Lisa Snart also puts in an appearance and even flirts her way into getting her alias from Cisco; Golden Glider. Naturally, the interactions between Team Flash and Team Rogues is hilariously entertaining and, of course, this is all a double-cross and Cold lets the inamtes free but not before letting them know exactly who sprung them. Fitting for the character and I will always gush over Captain Cold showing up.

Flash Fact: The missing pilot that caused Ferris Air to close is no doubt Hal Jordan, who disappeared during a test flight and became Earth’s first Green Lantern!

After the inmate debacle, there’s surprisingly MORE episode! Wells returns to STAR Labs after his device fully charges the pipeline and Barry goes to meet him at the door but he’s not alone. Firestorm and Arrow have got Barry’s back and it’s… honestly not a well choreographed fight. If anything, it seems like a slapdash brawl in a parking lo– Oh. Huh.

Regardless, everyone gets a shot at the big bad before Ollie tags Wells with a massive arrow full Ray Palmer’s nanites and Wells takes an unintentionally hilarious tumble off a car, one leg left hanging in the air. Ollie asks for a favour and takes his leave, Firestorm saying NOTHING and hurriedly following his cousin off-screen. Weird… Barry stands triumphantly over the Reverse-Flash as the episode comes to a close.

All in all, an average episode, which is strange considering it features two team-ups but maybe that’s because I’m still coming down from the SHIELD season finale. Come back next week though because we’ll be racing across the finish line with Fast Enough.

Going Rogue marks the big gear change in The Flash, as we go from the C-List villains to the big guns of Barry’s Rogues with Captain Cold, played by guest star Wentworth Miller.

We also get a small crossover as Felicity Smoak, from sister-show Arrow, comes to visit Barry for the first time since his coma. Emily Bett Rickards has fantastic chemistry with Grant Gustin and the two make an adorably perfect double act that could blossom into romance if they weren’t holding a candle for someone else, something they freely admit to each other in a rather touching and emotionally profound scene near the end of the episode. Throughout the episode, the pair are an absolute delight to watch and it’s fun to see someone from Team Arrow interact with Team Flash. Wells even admits to keeping tabs on her career because she shows a lot of promise, which is creepy and has a hint of retroactive foreshadowing to it given his mysterious circumstances.

Speaking of Wells, this episode marks the first time the team see him lose is usual affable nature and straight up threatens Cisco for inventing the cold gun. Cisco’s lucky Wells didn’t take off his glasses or he would have been FUCKED.

Wentworth Miller is the special guest star and is, much to my surprise, quite entertaining as popular villain, Captain Cold. They go to great lengths to establish his origins, even slyly mentioning his sister (the villain Golden Glider) and show that he used liquid nitrogen in his robberies before he even acquired the cold gun that was stolen from STAR Labs. This portrayal is pretty spot on to his comic counterpart, with set rules for his crew that are in line with his rules with The Rogues. There’s also ICE PUNS! Not quite as overt as Arnie’s seminal snow shenanigans but still a fun little nod.

I feel that this is a good point to talk about the CGI used in the show. While no where near as good as Quicksilver’s recent visual jaunt on the silver screen, the CGI works well and doesn’t distract too much though it can look very rubbery sometimes but otherwise, the running effects and the freezing effect for the cold gun were used quite well.

Post-credits scene establishes Captain Cold (who was let go, for lack of a better option) talking with an ex-partner and how The Flash is a big enough threat for him to hire a new crew for future jobs and offers the unseen man the flame gun from earlier in the show, establishing this as our future villain, Heat Wave. When going through the various weapons some guy stole from STAR Labs, there was a camera-looking weapon that I didn’t immediately recognise so my best guess is Mirror Master maybe? Hope so! Can’t wait to see more of the Scarlet Speedster’s Rogues come together in the future. Get Mark Hamill to reprise his role from the 90’s and be an old-as-balls Trickster!

Much like SHIELD, The Flash won’t be back til November 11th but rest assured, we’ll be back then to take a peak at Plastique.
