This month we go for something completely different. No, not Monty Python! (although that might be more coherent) This month we look at the “classic” that is 1980’s Popeye with Robin Williams and Shelly Duvall. The story of how this movie got made is astounding and too much to give away here, but listen as our duo wonder how this thing ever got made. Also they wonder why it ever got made. This is a wierd one folks.

You cannot fault this film for it’s art design. Man this film was honest in it’s look. It is like no other.

Popeye rule #1- ALWAYS have the pipe toward the camera!

If you want a master class in physical acting, look no further than Duvall in this movie. In a film of sincere performances, hers stands head and shoulders above the material.

This month we go freakin ZANY!!!!! It is the second podcast of the year, it is the second Superman film we have studied, and WE ARE WATCHING TWO DIFFERENT VERSIONS OF THE SAME MOVIE! That’s right, I am watching the theatrical cut of the film, and Aaron is watching the more recent Donner cut. Is one better than the other? Do either of them hold up to scrutiny? Will either of us KNEEL BEFORE ZOD!?!

I think that the production designer for the 90’s learned everything from these guys. Stark lighting, black clothing, and shiny leather accents. Yep, that’s the 90’s all right.

This month we We take a look at the first film in this series with a female protagonist, played by Lori Petty, and a female director, Rachel Talalay, in the 90’s classic (classic?) Tank Girl!
In all of the episodes we have done so far, we may not have agreed about each film, but none have been so divisive as this one so far. One of us feels it is a fun time capsule of its age, and the other sees it as a jumbled mess. So that means you people get the most energetic podcast to date! You lucky people.

I think we all agree that this film got a few things wrong, but upon further notice, is it THAT bad? Did they get anything right? Well, yes and no, truth be told. While the casting of the “Four” is half perfect, the other half is…well listen in to get our full opinions…

Make no mistake, this guy is half of the reasons you watch this film. He ain’t Captain America, yet, but he steals this picture.

JJ and his amazing friend Aaron are here to…blah, blah, blah. Look, here’s what happens. Aaron and I have both seen Iron Man 3. He already aired his viewpoint on Weekend Justice, and when I asked him if he wanted to talk about it, he wisely pointed out that we have The Drive In Of Doom to tear apart what we like and don’t like in movies. Fair enough. I received some contact stating that Mars Needs listeners would like to hear what we had to say about the film. So I figured we would dedicate 10-15 minutes to a little Tony Stark talk. What follows is an hour and a half of Iron Man 3 spoilers and dissection. Like it or hate it, we can sure rattle on about film.

Hello and welcome back to DOOM!’s exploration of the Comic Book film genre hosted by Aaron Poole and JJ Hawkins. This month, we feature our first guest commentator, Elizabeth Neal, as we look at a movie that takes three people to process…Brett Ratner’s X-Men: The Last Stand, or as everyone calls it X-Men 3. Come suffer with us as we watch everything that had gone right in the X-Men movies so far, get destroyed in a whirling tornado of bad film-making and grossly misunderstanding the source material. What. A. Train. Wreck.

Yep. That is the most dynamic shot I found of our heroes, folks.

Some things are very right and make a lot of sense…

…and some don’t make any damned sense at all. Why is Peter carrying this in human form? He’s not stronger, just a dude carrying a big fuck all TV under his arm.

and the saddest thing of all, a generation of children put off reading, because even they thought the story was weak.

No Real drinking game this month. We actually watched the movie and talked about it. Go fig. Make up your own and feel free to post it in the comment thread.
