(And re-discovering that I don’t like courgettes) the stuff about characters being the voice through which your subconscious tells you that stuff isn’t necessarily working is something that I’d even apply to the mentioned Jurassic World movie (which I really didn’t like) — the whole premise of the film is about why the film is unnecessary, a “bigger, badder” version of something that doesn’t need to exist. When you have the stand-in for “the movie” (it opens up on the Indominus Rex hatching, linking it with the start of the film) being a soulless force of destruction that wrecks the park and causes them to ultimately undo the entire set-up of the film, it’s maybe a hint that the film isn’t adding or doing anything? But, that’s before all the weird objectification and troubling depictions of women, but, yeah. I -do- disagree with the second film being bad! But, that’s maybe because it’s the one I got to see in the cinema, as I was just too young to see the first one theatrically (I watched it on VHS).
