However, if the characters are strong, then it falls on the creative elements BEHIND the scenes to tell stories that are worth telling. Although Tiny Tunes were new characters, the archetypes were derivative of the originals. They were told in a new way to make them come alive. Duck Dodgers had a series a few years ago, that I thought would be awful, but in fact, is was really funny and charming.

I think that comics are the example here. Bob Kane has died, but Christopher Nolan has come up with stories worth telling*. Quality storytelling will always win out. The problem is the people telling the new stories are not up to the challenge. That is not to say that no one is.

The Looney Tunes were very much Bob Clampett, Chuck Jones, Tex Avery, Bob McKimson, and Friz Freling’s sense of humor. Which is why the Looney Tunes now aren’t funny, they don’t work anymore because the same mindset that made them great is behind them anymore.
