– You Retain The Right To Party

It’s interesting that so much of the set-up in the trailer is based around Jessica being in trouble. The story seems to be more Daredevil/Iron Fist centric with its villains. I wonder how she’ll be included.

– Iron Jaw

I don’t know if we’ll ever get the Heroes For Hire pairing of Danny & Luke that we all love but this is a pretty fun moment.

– Orange Is The New… Wait

This is no flashback. The latest Power Man & Iron Fist comic dealt with Luke breaking into prison to get Danny out, I wonder if this will have a similar reasoning.

– She’s Back

No-one stays dead in the comics, but I am surprised Elektra returns in The Defenders. She is seen fighting our heroes in some quick clips of the trailer but then seen walking calmly behind them in the corridor scene too, so who knows.

– Sigourney Freakin Weaver

She is listed only as “Alexandra” on IMDB. I have no idea how she connects to everything. A head of The Hand? I don’t know. I’m in for it, though.

– Nom Nom Nom

If this isn’t a sly reference to The Avengers eating shawarma, then I’ll eat my hat. Also, how awful is Finn Jones? He delivers this line like a high school theatre actor.

OVERALL: Problems with Finn Jones aside, this looks great. I’m excited, I don’t know an awful lot, and I know it will be out in August. Everything a trailer needs to do, really.

Marvel just released its second trailer for Spider-Man: Homecoming. A title so wink-wink nudge-nudge that you would swear Deadpool was explaining the joke to you through the fourth wall.

I want this movie to be good. Logan was, after so many bad attempts, the movie Wolverine deserved. I want this movie to be that for Spidey. So know this before I crap all over the following trailer…

– Confusing Daddy Issues

I don’t understand this relationship at all. Tony Stark gave this kid a crazy special suit to go fight crime and then tells him not to fight crime with it. He takes the kid half-way around the world to beat up Captain America but tells him that stopping guys with guns or saving a ship is out of his league. WHAT?! That makes no god damn sense.

– Are You Trying To Seduce Him?

Why does it look like Aunt May is going to “Mrs Robinson” Peter? Maybe I’ve been watching too much Riverdale on Netflix but this looks sexual. And who decided Aunt May needed to be younger and hot? Like, what does that achieve apart from continuing Hollywood’s dismissal of older women in its movies?

– Who Are You? Who, Who? Who, Who?

What version of The Vulture is this? “I’ll do anything to protect my family”, what? Is this Hawkeye all over again, when a character is given a family just so that we can relate to him? The Jury is out on this villain.

– Not The Face!

Oh goody, looks like they found a way for Spider-Man not to have a mask on for the entirety of the final battle. Yay.

OVERALL: I am so disappointed by this trailer. It gives away pretty much the whole plot of the movie and shows us that Marvel haven’t really learned from the mistakes of Sony in adapting Spider-Man to the big screen. Weird changes to the source-material and an over-reliance on “star” power means this is looking to be nothing but a standard Hollywood film. I hope I’m proven wrong but this trailer was trash.

When the original trailer for Lionsgate’s Power Rangers debuted, I was all set to write up a TMB article for it but then it turned out to be nothing, really. Not spectacular but it had a bit of young adult adaptation about it (à la Hunger Games, Divergent, Chronicle, etc) and the following slew of toy reveals were not helping the image of the movie at all but as the release date creeped closer and no new trailer, expectant fans were growing even more concerned about the movie. Now, with just 9 weeks until theatrical release, a second trailer finally emerges so let’s see what we can expect…

Wow. Okay, that wasn’t terrible! I think everyone assumed that this was going to be a shit-show but that trailer was pretty cool! I don’t even mind the use of Kanye West’s Power, even if Saints Row did it first and better.

Five Teenagers With Attitude

The first trailer showed a lot more of the cast doing their thing in a desaturated Breakfast Club kind-of way but we got some revealing snippets of dialogue that give some insight to the personalities and I’m on board with a bunch of snarky gits taking the piss out of each other during training sessions.

Front and (Command) Center

Bryan Cranston was announced early doors as the Rangers’ blue-domed mentor and this is his first appearance. I like it! It’s different but it looks damn cool and Cranston (who is no stranger to the Power Rangers franchise) gives a powerful delivery to the lines we hear. Assisting Zordon, we have Bill Hader (of Saturday Night Live fame) as Alpha 5 and much like everything else in the trailer, looks better in motion than in concept art or toy form.

Back to Action!

The teaser trailer was light on suit action but we get plenty in this one as we see Jason assisting a helpless civilian from some rubble and Billy delivering some devastating kicks to a Putty monster. The suits look sooooo much better in motion than I’d expected.

Green with Evil

From her initial reveal to now, I’ve been in love with Elizabeth Banks as Rita Repulsa. She exudes an aura of wickedness and power and we get to see plenty of that with this trailer. Speculation at this moment points toward her being the Green Ranger at some point and I would be totally down for that but given her more hands-on approach to world conquering and her line from the teaser “I’ve killed Rangers before“, she may not need the power boost.

We need Megazord power!

Oh boy, the Bandai toys did not do these mechs justice. They look great in motion for what is sure to be the climax of the film. Hell, even Goldar looks good in spite of his terrible toy design. We can only hope the filmmakers took a few cues from Pacific Rim when it came to the final kaiju fight.

My final thoughts on this trailer are really positive! I was going to give the movie the benefit of the doubt despite all of the associated media giving me cause for concern but I think, come March 24th, we’re going to see a truly morphenomenal movie!

The movie is directed by a relative newcomer, Jon Watts, who has mainly directed TheOnion.com videos. It’s co-written by John Francis Daley and if you’re wondering why that name is familiar, he was the main kid in Freaks & Geeks. But don’t worry, he’s one of 6 people who are credited as writing the screenplay. Have I made you nervous yet?

Ok, lets see our first trailer.

– The Ultimate Bait and Switch

If you believe everything you read on the internet, IMDB would have you know that popular young actress Zendaya is playing a character named Michelle. Sure. I personally think she bares a resemblance to a certain red-head from the Ultimate Spider-Man universe.

But hey, Aaron, that’s the Ultimate universe. What has that got to do with…

– C’mon guys

Well here is where I’m a little confused and very annoyed. This chubby best friend of Spider-Man, who loves Lego, is listed as… Ned Leeds?! Are you kidding me?

I’m supposed to think this guy is going to turn into the Hobgoblin at some point? No. He is CLEARLY Ganke Lee from the Ultimate Spider-Man comics (and now 616). Either Marvel is playing real hard to get with details or it doesn’t know what it is doing. I’m really hoping for the former based on track-record. But if this was Fox or Warner Bros I’d be spitting venom right now.

– Death From Above

Welcome to our big bad guy for the movie, The Vulture. It will be interesting if they play with any of the age stuff in The Vulture’s lore but either way he’s played by Michael Keaton so that’s pretty damn cool.

He has gone from playing Batman to Birdman and now a bird… man.

– Web Armpits!

It’s the first time we see them in live-action form and I, for one, am jazzed about it.

OVERALL: Honestly, I have to admit I expected a trailer that would get me more excited. It revealed lots of character stuff, like how Peter is being treated like a child by Tony Stark and being mentored slightly, and who his friends are etc. But I’ve seen enough of RDJ at this stage and the characters aren’t who they say they are so… meh?
I still want to see the film, I’m excited for Tom Holland in the roll, but if I knew nothing before this trailer I don’t think I’d go to see Spider-Man: Homecoming based on this footage alone.

Logan is being directed by James Mangold, the man who did the previous excursion The Wolverine (also Walk The Line, which is funny considering the trailer’s choice of music). The list of writers is a little interesting. David James Kelly is making his big screen debut with this script and Michael Green previously wrote the Green Lantern movie. That’s… concerning.

It’s been 24 hours now since the trailer debuted so lets take a considered look at it.

– Interesting Factors

I like that the movie took the choice to move the story on to a future date. It really gives it a chance to do something different. For example, it seems pretty clear that Wolverine’s healing factor is no longer working.

– Chuck But No Chuckles

Listen, when they show you everyone’s surrogate grandfather in this sort of condition you can guarantee this isn’t going to have the kind of quips and light-hearted beats of previous X-Men films. Prepare to feel some feelings.

– She’s Like You

“Very much like you”. Yeah, I’m pretty sure we can rest easy knowing that little Laura here is the clone of Wolverine from the comics, X-23. Will she be a loyal adaptation though? Will she have the claws? We may have gotten a sneak peek at that later in the trailer (it’s unclear) but keep in mind what Fox did with the Deadpool character in the first Wolverine movie. She may be in this but she may not be the same…

– The End

The ending to this trailer looks and feels like it could be the last shot of the movie too but I don’t think we’re getting out of this that easily. If Wolverine doesn’t die in Logan I’ll eat all the hats in a hat factory.

Overall: It looks a lot like the Old Man Logan comic that Marvel did a couple years ago, although a whittled down version of it which is a good thing. I can never be fully confident in a Fox superhero film living up to it’s trailer. Right now though, I’m interested, which I haven’t been for any Wolverine movie previously.

We know they’re leading to a Defenders series but with no Heroes for Hire planned right now this could be our only dose of Luke Cage being the star of the show. Netflix have shown in the past though that if one of their products is a hit, they’ll commission more straight away so with some future happiness on the line, lets hope this lives up to the hype.

– Tantrums and Tiaras

Looks like we’re going to delve into some of Luke’s backstory. It’s very awesome to see him in the 70s comic’s inspired get up of tiara and bracelets. Sure, they’re not the real deal and just a nod but it’s cool anyway.

– Kingpin… Kinda

The main bad-guy in the trailer is a character not many would be familiar with, Cornell Stokes. Or, as any comic historians will tell you, Cornell Cottonmouth. He’s a pretty standard crime-lord but the show looks to elevate his status quite a bit.

– Hardly an Iron Fist

Luke Cage is cool. He always was, always will be. Part of it is his laid-back demeanour. His tough guy exterior. But mostly it’s is face when idiots try to hit him and he just wishes they made better life decisions.

-One Knight In Heaven

Blink and you’ll miss her but it’s Misty fiddle-faddle Knight y’all!

Overall: Netflix so far have made three excellent Marvel series. That record doesn’t look to be in danger as Luke Cage, to my mind, is shaping up to be the best one yet. Roll on September!

Benedict Cumberbatch plays Stephen Strange a world renowned surgeon who, after a car accident that destroyed his hands, searches the world for any kind of medicine that can repair them. What he finds is a big magical place with magic and magicians. I mean, that’s the general gist.

There is a great cast, and slightly racist undertones, awaiting us in what will be Marvel’s most unique movie yet if the source material is anything to go by.

– Play It Again, Sam

Every trailer these days has a monotonous piano note opening it so it’s probably no surprise that this one has the same. It replaced the Inception “WOMP”, although this has that too. What tickled me, however, was that this one has the main character actually playing it!

This is all just to highlight Strange’s hands because they are a huge factor in his story. But still, it got a chuckle out of me.

– You Gotta Hand It To Him

They’re starting to show his magic in action and I like how there is a uniformity with how Marvel presents its magic across titles but also how there is a similarity with Tony Stark’s holographic technology too.

– Kaecilius… Movement of Jah People

I don’t want to give away spoilers for the movie, but I really like how we are presented the bad guys in the trailer. It’s really hard to say anymore without revealing a lot, but I think audiences are going to enjoy the hero/villain dynamic in this film.

– The World’s End

If nothing else, this trailer lets you know that you’re in for a bit of a mind bending time. I like that. This is going to be different. We’re not going to get a standard action movie.

Overall: This is going to be a very special-effects heavy movie so it makes sense that a lot of it wasn’t done for the first trailer. Now that more and more is being revealed it’s starting to look like Doctor Strange could end up being something both very different and a possible sleeper hit.

I have gone on record numerous times on this website that I have a problem with how Warner Brothers portrays their super heroes and how they’re handling their franchise. There is a reek of desperation about their need to catch up with Marvel’s success but you can’t fast-track what Marvel have accomplished. Especially with the gloomy movies DC have been making.

Zack Snyder is directing again so I’m not thrilled going in to this but the cast is pretty great with Affleck and Gadot returning along with the debuts of Jason Momoa, Ezra Miller, and Ray Fisher.

– Aquaman

Jason Momoa is cool as balls and I don’t understand why he doesn’t get more work. I hear he can be difficult on set, and that’s fair enough, but I think it’s a good trade off.

This scene is silly. Like, King Tide? He’s says that like it’s a thing. And isn’t it kinda messed up if Aquaman is delivering his buddies to be eaten every winter? Wouldn’t he be against eating fish? I don’t know.

– Wonder Woman

Once again, she doesn’t get to feature much in a trailer (although I suppose having her own makes up for that) but her interaction here is fun and a nice breath of fresh air considering what BvS was like.

– The Flash

What’s this? A happy person in a Warner Bros super hero movie? Surely it can not be! Ezra Miller is a pretty cool actor and often goes intense/weird with his performances so it should be interesting to see what he does with this.

I’m slightly confused why the lightning effects are necessary when he literally just steps out of the way. I understand they are part of his power but I always thought they were a result of him moving so fast and building up so much friction and static electricity.

Also, why is Bruce using his Batman voice out of the suit? That seems unnecessary.

– Cyborg

Blink and you’ll miss him. Cyborg almost takes on The Flash’s abilities he’s so quick to disappear in this trailer.

I understand he’s not as big a name as the other guys but still… it’s glaring how little they care about him. Who is he? What are his powers? We hear both about Aquaman and Flash, why not Cyborg? #WhyNotCyborg

Overall: It’s nice that they had a more upbeat feel to the trailer but at the end of the day, I don’t know who or what they’re fighting and I don’t know anything of the plot other than Bruce Wayne is trying to find friends. That trailer was a bit of fun but it didn’t really sell me on anything.

Okay, DC… You got me. After the debacle that was Man of Steel and the awfulness that was Batman v Superman; I was ready to write DC off all together but as this year’s San Diego Comic Con has shown… Maybe there’s still some hope for the world’s most iconic heroes and who better to bring that hope than Wonder Woman?

She’s Beauty, She’s Grace…

Holy cow, Gal Gadot is gorgeous! Maybe I didn’t see it in BvS because the movie was bad and the promo shots of her weren’t fantastic but seeing this lady in motion sends my heart aflutter. Whether in her finest gown (with matching sword) or on the battlefield, Gal exudes femininity like a physical aura of awesome.

… She’ll kick you in the face.

And lady knows how to beat an ass or two, that’s for damn sure! While traditionally a peaceful emissary for the Amazons, Diana is no stranger to combat and she certainly gets to show that with multiple shots of swordplay, close combat, lasso tricks and taking heavy machine gun fire like a champ!

Secret Origins

This line is pretty indicative of the way they could be going with Diana’s origin and that’s great. Because she’s had, like, six in her 75 years of publication and having one of the more mythical ones is a good step. Unless that’s just the story Hippolyta (Diana’s mother) told her… Which would also be interesting!

Take me down to the Paradise City…

Diana’s people, the Amazons, inhabit the hidden island of Themyscira (aka Paradise Island) and we get a nice few shots of the island, it’s people and their culture and I’m getting a very Thor-ish vibe from it.

Pine-ing for Fjords

Chris Pine is Steve Trevor; first man to set foot on Themyscira/Paradise Island and designated damsel for the movie. Pine’s a good choice because while he is charming, he can also play clueless and inept for laughs equally well. Which is another thing…

Candy is Dandy

There’s HUMOUR! Oh glorious gods of Olympus; there are jokes in a DC movie! Etta Candy (Lucy Davis) is Steve’s secretary and one of Diana’s closest human friends. Great to see a long neglected character get some real screen time.

To say I’m excited would be an understatement. Sure, Wonder Woman appears to be aping Marvel’s earlier outings with Thor and Captain America but is that a really bad thing? Given how dire MoS and BvS were; DC are clearly going for a more Marvelous approach and just look at the response on social media – people are responding positively to it! People are hyped for Wonder Woman and I’ll gladly count myself among that crowd!

Wonder Woman will be spinning into theatres June 2nd 2017! Be sure to keep your eyes glued to Doom though because Aaron will be looking at something in a whole different League!

If you’re one of those people, we have no time for you here at DOOM Towers. The dungeon is where we put the likes of you. It’s not a nice place. It’s where we keep the cast of Hands Down.

However, we are movie snobs and we want movies to be great. The first trailer looked OK, it had about three moments that made me chuckle which isn’t a bad return. But with all the hate surrounding the franchise right now, how does it respond?

– Boo!

It’s interesting that the general focus of this trailer is much more on the ghost elements of the movie and less so on the characters, as the last one was.

The “I think you girls can handle it” feels very much like a knowing nod towards the hatred they’ve been getting online. I could be thinking too much into it, but it’s clever either way.

– Money Crunchers

There are plenty of elements in the trailer that lend itself to merchandising and future amusement park rides, but I’ll be damned if I don’t see this available for cars.

– Ummm… Spoilers?

Maybe I’m wrong, but Hemsworth’s possession by a ghost feels like a big moment in the film. Maybe it will be a short scene but between it and the shot of everything blowing up around him while he looks creepy… I don’t know. I could have done without knowing it.

– The Realest

This is a much more colourful film than the originals. Even down to the jumpsuits. Everything seems to… glow. And I like a lot of the ghost designs too. It makes everything feel like a cartoon and considering my love of the cartoon as a kid, I’m cool with that.

– Wait… Is That What I Think It Is?

OVERALL: This trailer doesn’t help with the confusion of whether or not this is a reboot or a sequel but what it does do is clear up whether or not this film will be fun and I think it will.
