Did anyone else notice a real lull in applause any time that David O. Russell’s name was mentioned?
I get the feeling that most people outside of The Fighter don’t like him too much.
Maybe those behind-the-scenes outburst tapes have done the rounds.

While I agree that Inception was well done, to me, What Deakins did with True Grit was in a different league. As you stated, Inception relied on FX shots and the look of the film was driven by a team. Deakins built a film out of lighting, filters and skill. Not that I am upset with Pfister’s win, he made a beautiful film, but that comment was mainly to comment on one horrible truth. If you look at his body of work, it is an outrage that Deakins has not won yet.

…and that ladies and gentlemen is why you refer to your notes. Kate Blanchett was the presenter for Rick Baker. I was indeed mixing the two moments up. Silly me. Still, I think RDJ was momentarily saddened.

I really enjoyed your article about the Oscars! =^] Specifically your first point in “The Bad” about Celine Dion being rather inappropriate. She is a pretty singer and all, but the cuts to her were not appreciated. Not to mention, they left out Corey Haim and Gary Coleman… *Sigh* I mean, it isn’t well known that Gary Coleman was in movies (I looked it up after I realized he wasn’t shown) but Corey Haim was sort of really important back in 80’s!
But you did KIND OF imagine #6 under “The Good”. Not that The Wolfman didn’t win. Oh no, it did! =^D And I was very happy about that. But it did not beat Iron Man 2. Inception did. The Wolfman won for it’s use of make-up. Iron Man 2 was up for Special Effects. I’m not sure if Robert Downey Jr. (AKA: My favorite actor EVER!!!) was obviously upset about it… I most definitely was… But I’m biased. =^]

I gotta disagree with you about Deakins. He should have won for “No Country for Old Men,” definitely, but I think the combination of how gorgeous “Inception” looked balanced with the technical prowess necessary to work with so many practical special effects going on at once put Pfister in the lead this year. I mean, we’re judging these guys based on skill and craftsmanship more than just the aesthetic beauty of the shots produced, right? Well, it takes a true idiot to film those parts of New Mexico and produce crap, but it takes a bloody genius to film something as frenetic and complicated as “Inception” AND produce something wonderful.
